Botcherby Family Centre rises from the ashese

At 12.45p.m. on Tuesday 20 may 2003, Botcherby family Centre, Ennerdale Avenue, Carlisle re-opens after being destroyed by fire in January 2001. County Councillor Ralph Aldersey, Chairman of the County Council will plant a tree at the site to signify the new life for the centre before unveiling a plaque to officially reopen this Centre.

The Social Services run family centre provides numerous services and has been sorely missed by local people. Services were transferred to Morton Park family centre after the accident and families in Botcherby are delighted to have their centre back. County Councillor Ralph Aldersey says,

"I am delighted to be asked to open the newly built Botcherby Family Centre today. This is my last official engagement as Chairman of the County Council and it's a pleasure that that official engagement is to re-open Botcherby family Centre for the Community it has traditionally served so well.

The centre provides specialist services such as parenting skills classes and therapeutic work with children and families. The building was destroyed by fire in January 2001 and work began to re-build the Centre in July 2002. The new centre has a facility at the end of the building for Surestart and has many other improvements and developments on the original building. There is still some garden landscaping to do and I'm pleased to be able to plant a tree here on behalf of Cumbria County Council. I hope that the family Centre is well used by local people in the community."
