On Sunday 11 May, Cumbria County Council’s Family Placement team is holding a Children’s 5-a side Football Tournament to promote Foster Care in Cumbria. The event is free, fun for all the family and takes place at 10.00 a.m. at Brunton Park Football Ground, Warwick Road, Carlisle.
The Tournament is for teams of under 10’s and under 12’s, includes both boys and girls and will be a fun event for the whole family. The day includes a range of family fun activities and entertainment. There’s a bouncy castle, face painting, and a `Circus Box’. In the Circus Box, children can practice plate spinning and badge making. There will be special tours around Carlisle United’s ground and Women’s World Snooker champion, Kelly Fisher, will be commentating on the games. There are great prizes to be won at this free, family fun day out. County Councillor John Mallinson, Cabinet spokesman for Care and Social Services says,
“I hope that lots of people turn out for this free event, have a fun day out and take the opportunity to find out more about fostering in Cumbria. Local children are in need of carers to ensure they can make the best of life chances and we are especially keen to keep children where possible, within the local community. Foster carers have a vital role to play in helping children to thrive. Many people think that there are age and other restrictions precluding them from fostering but generally that is untrue. There are no age limits, up or down - so long as you can demonstrate a mature, responsible attitude and enough energy for the task. Single people are needed as well as married or cohabiting couples because a single carer can better meet some children’s needs. We are looking for ordinary people so ask yourself if you have space in your life for a child in need.”
