Today, Cumbria County Council's South Lakeland Local Committee agreed to go out to formal consultation on proposed loading and unloading restrictions in Kendal Town Centre, to help traffic to flow more freely. A mix of peak time and all day restrictions are proposed to best meet the needs of people trading, shopping and working in Kendal town centre. The consultation report will be considered in September 2003.
Peak-time restrictions would be in place from 8.00a.m. to 10.00a.m. and 4.00p.m. to 6.00p.m. They are,
All day restrictions are proposed on the north side of Sandes Avenue between Stricklandgate and Blackhall Road and on Stricklandgate North between Sandes Avenue and Busher Walk.
County Councillor Anne Parker, Chair of South lakes Local Committee says,
"The introduction of loading and unloading restrictions aims to ensure the free flow of traffic through Kendal town centre. This consultation is a further development in the fine-tuning of the Kendal town centre traffic scheme. Cumbria County Council is fully committed to improve the safety and quality of peoples lives and ensuring a package of measures for Kendal aiming to improve the town for public transport, pedestrians and motorists."
