Storytelling Festival coming to Eden

Today, Cumbria County Council's Eden Local Committee agreed £1000 of funding for Eden Arts towards the 12th North Pennine Storytelling Festival. The Festival takes place between 26 and 28 September and events will be taking place in Alston, Appleby, Melmerby and Langwathby.

The annual festival is managed by the North Pennine Arts Working Group, which consists of arts officers from Tynedale, Teeside, Weardale, Durham, Cumbria, Eden and Northern Arts. County Councillor Mary Warburton, Chair of Eden Local Committee, says,

"I am pleased to support the storytelling festival. It will focus heavily on the Alston area of Eden, promoting Alston and East Fellside and increasing economic activity in local communities.

Some of the activities planned include a story walk at Nenthead Mines and children's Saturday morning storytelling at Alston library. There is also likely to be events at Ostrich World, Langwathby, Appleby Heritage Centre and Melmerby village hall. The Festival Finale will be held at Alston Town Hall. Funding events like this in Eden gives people the chance to participate in community activities, promoting rural life and social inclusion for people in rural communities. Community projects enable people to get together, avoiding the isolation that can result from living in a rural area like Eden."
