At 9.30 on Thursday 6 November 2003 at Penrith Rugby Club, Cumbria Adult Protection Committee holds a multi agency conference to raise awareness of adult protection work in Cumbria. The conference brings together professionals from the Police, Health, Social services and other relevant organisations.
The Government guidance on protecting vulnerable adults from abuse is called `No Secrets’ and states that all agencies should provide training for staff and volunteers about how to recognise and prevent abuse. County Councillor John Mallinson, Cabinet spokesman for care and Social Services says,
“The conference is important to raise awareness of vulnerable adult abuse. Speakers include Richard Crompton, Assistant Chief Constable, Cumbria Police, Jean Bradshaw Acting Corporate Director of Social Services, Tina Long, Carlisle and District Primary Care Trust and Paul Coleing, Professional Advisor, National Care Standards Commission. Adult Protection work in Cumbria has made great progress since the `No Secrets’ guidelines were introduced. The conference will reflect on those achievements and look at developments for the future.”
