05/11/03 - More schools receive Early Years Quality Award

At 1.30pm on Friday 7thNovember at Rheged Discovery Centre in Penrith, Victoria Ashfield, Corporate Director for Education will present 19 schools across the County with the Cumbria Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership’s Flying High Quality Kitemark award.   The kitemark is awarded to schools achieving excellence in early education.  

Schools to be awarded the quality kitemark are as follows:

  • Arnside National CE School
  • Bowness-on-Solway
  • Bransty School
  • Chapel Street Infants School
  • Dale Street Infants School
  • Ellenborough and Ewanrigg Infant & Nursery School
  • Ghyllside School
  • Holy Family Catholic Primary School
  • Inglewood Infant School
  • Langwathby CE School
  • Milnthorpe Primary School
  • Newbarns Primary School – Nursery Class and Reception Class
  • Northside School
  • Seaton Infant School
  • St Bede’s Roman Catholic Primary School
  • St Bridget’s CE School
  • St Michaels Nursery & Infant School
  • Wigton Infant School

County Councillor Joan Stocker, Cabinet Spokesperson for Education says

“I am delighted to see again so many schools in Cumbria achieving excellence in early education.  The award recognises the quality service that they provide to children in the Foundation Stage (in their first year of full time education.)  Congratulations to all the schools receiving the award.”  

Jan Massey, Head Teacher of Newlaithes Infant School in Carlisle and the Partnership’s Quality Advisor for Schools says,  

“Cumbria is extremely proud of the schools receiving their awards. This brings the number of schools awarded the Fliying High Kitemark over the past three years to about 60. The achievement of this award reflects an 18 month process of thorough self-evaluation, action planning and development work.  We have seen some stunning examples of high quality provision of early education for our Nursery and Reception children. All the staff involved are to be congratulated for their hard work and commitment.”
