A new magazine produced by Cumbria County Council is being piloted around Cumbria this month. ‘Your Cumbria’ aims to keep residents informed about a variety of subjects from the work and decisions of the Council to the achievements of Cumbrian People. There are also a wide range of useful features in this first, special edition from safety in the home to safety on the road, with top tips for safe driving and a pull-out and keep guide to road gritting this winter.
Commenting on the new magazine, County Councillor Rex Toft, Leader of Cumbria County Council says,
The County Council is committed to keeping the residents of Cumbria informed in a way that they prefer. The decision to produce a magazine followed research with residents revealing that most people would prefer to be kept informed via a magazine, ideally delivered to them at home and this matches the national trend.
Even armed with this information we still want to be sure that this really is what people want. That is why we are running the first edition as a pilot and have included a questionnaire within it for the public to fill in. This will help us determine whether we’ve got the right approach and more importantly whether people feel it represents value for money.
Distribution costs have been kept down as a result of joint working with Cumbria Police. Copies of `Your Cumbria’ are being distributed together with the new look Police Annual report, produced for the first time in a newspaper format. `Your Cumbria’ also promotes the work of many of the County Councils partners like the LSC and of partnership projects like the Speed Camera Initiative.
As a pilot copies are being distributed around the county via Royal Mail to a high, but random selection of households and copies are also available in a variety of supermarkets in Cumbria’s major towns. If you don’t receive one through your door – don’t worry, anyone who does not receive a copy but would like to see one please contact Cumbria County Council’s Communications Team on 01228 606447, who will be happy to send you one. Copies are also available on line at the Cumbria County Council website.
