At 10am on Tuesday 11thNovember in Carlisle, Cumbria County Council’s Cabinet will be asked to recommend to Full Council that a strategic partnership with an external body providing the same high quality services to the young people of Cumbria offers the best way forward for Cumbria Outdoors.
Over the past few months much detailed work has been undertaken to evaluate and assess the best way forward. The process is not yet complete and no final decision has yet been taken about the future of Cumbria Outdoors.
Joan Stocker, Cabinet Spokesperson for Education says
“Cabinet recognises and greatly values the service provided by Cumbria Outdoors. We understand the importance of providing targeted outdoor experiential educational opportunities to young people in Cumbria. We are therefore in the process of seeking a partnerwho can bring management skills, shared vision and ability to attract funding so that we can strengthen the service which we know schools and groups value. Transferring its management from the Community, Economy and Environment Directorate to the Education Directorate will help facilitate and is a recognition of the curriculum work that Cumbria Outdoors delivers to help raise standards while providing an enjoyable experience for children.”
