14/11/03 - Cumbria County Council Statement on Senior Officer's Status

Today, Rex Toft Leader of Cumbria County Council made the following statement about senior officers in the light of the recent zero rating of Cumbria Social Services.

“There have been a number of speculative media reports about the future positions of various senior officers, including the Chief Executive, following the zero star rating of the Social Services department.

Our considerations of the serious problems arising from the SSI inspection are still ongoing.  It would be improper to reach any conclusion about any individual officers at this stage. 

I would confirm that the Chief Executive is in post and at work as normal.

I wish to pay tribute to our officers who are working hard, as a matter of urgency, to put in place safe and robust systems to protect children.”
