Cumbria County Council is hosting a series of informal meetings to discuss public transport provision for the disabled in Barrow. The meetings will provide an opportunity for users to have an influence on the type of service to be provided in the area.
The County Council and Barrow Borough Council are currently considering the type of service which will operate in Barrow to provide transport for those unable, through disability, to access conventional public transport. The meetings will take place on:
Friday 5 December at 10.30 am – Age Concern, Lakeland Buildings , Abbey Road
Monday 15 December at 10.30 am – Ocean Road , Walney Island
Wednesday 17 December at 2 pm – Age Concern (Silver Lynx Meeting) address as above
Both Councils are committed to providing a dial a ride service for the mobility handicapped but there is a need, given the level of public funding available, to test the market. An invitation has been sent to everyone on the list provided by Barrow Dial a Ride however anyone else with an interest in this issue, service users, providers, or anyone else who may need this type of transport are welcome.
