“In February this year I led a British Council funded delegation from Cumbria to observe provision for Gifted and Talented pupils in Nizhny Novgorod, formerly Gorky, Russia’s 3rdlargest city. We were extremely well looked after and we learned a great deal. I would like to talk this opportunity to thank John Patrick, Audrey Kettle and Fiona Walker, staff from Caldew School, who have worked extremely hard to arrange this return visit. I intend to further develop our link with the City and also explore the possibility with local politicians of developing cultural links with the City and its Region.”
Andrew Abernethy, Headteacher at Caldew School says
“I am delighted to welcome our visitors from Russia. It will be a very exciting opportunity for our students to meet and learn about a people, culture and language, which is very different from their own. I am sure that our Russian friends will find their visit stimulating and I hope very memorable. I am looking forward to this relationship developing into a lasting partnership between our two schools and I am enjoying one of the first fruits of our new status as an Enterprise Specialist School.”
Leading Politicians and Officers from Cumbria County Council and the Mayor of Carlisle Councillor Judith Pattinson will also be attending the welcome.
