Young Steven Baines can’t wait until Wednesday morning. That’s when he will be able to get on the shiny new mountain bike that was delivered along with a cycle helmet to his home in West Cumbria days ago.
Steven, aged five, won the bike and the helmet in a competition held by Cumbria County Council and Capita, which delivers the county council’s road safety services. The competition was run at four events this summer -- the Cumberland, Westmorland, Lowther and Gosforth agricultural shows.
The competition was open to children of all ages. The entries were collected and Steven’s was pulled out of the hat after the last show.
The bike is to be presented by the Chairman of Cumbria County Council, Councillor Joe Nicholson, at 11am on Wednesday 22 October 24 at St Bega's CE School, Eskdale, Holmrook.
The bike and helmet has already been sent to Steven, but his mum, won’t let him ride it until after the presentation, and she says he is jumping around with excitement.
