Cumbria County Council's Cabinet has today made a significant contribution towards maintaining a vibrant voluntary sector by giving £29,000 in grants to a number of organisations.
Councillor Mike Ash, Deputy Leader of Cumbria County Council and portfolio holder for the voluntary and community sector, said:
"We are developing a tradition of partnership working in Cumbria between the County Council and the voluntary sector. This is now being recognised and improved. One of our key objectives is to achieve agreed aims. These awards will help achieve this.
Also, the County Council will be investing just over £1 million for core funding of the Cumbrian voluntary sector over the next three years. I am delighted to be supporting these important and hard working organisations, which have all contributed towards improving the quality of life for people living in Cumbria.
Those who applied for this funding but who were not successful are also being supported. We are looking at alternative ways of funding to help them deliver what they need."
The groups to benefit from funding, most of which will contribute towards running costs, are:
The funding has come from the county council's Voluntary/Community Sector grant fund, which has been advertised on the website and through Cumbria's Councils for Voluntary Service. To benefit, groups must contribute to economic regeneration or social inclusion, work in all six district areas of the county and be willing to work in partnership with Cumbria County Council.
The types of organisations to be funded include ones which lead or take part in regeneration programmes; reduce crime or the fear or crime or provide support to the victims of crime; improve the safety of communities and the quality of life for those communities; support organisations that represent excluded communities or individuals
