On Wednesday 17th September at The Oval Centre in Salterbeck at 1pm, Cumbria County Council's Local Committee for Allerdale will discuss its full non-priority road maintenance schemes for the remainder of 2003/4.
County Councillor Barbara Cannon, Chair of the Local Committee says,
"The recommendation coming before Members is to agree expenditure totalling over £254,000, including £60,000 for carriageway and footway reconstruction works in the Portland Square area of Workington to partner expenditure committed by Workington Regeneration and the Heritage Lottery Fund. It is important that the Local Committee's highways budget assists the improvements to the streetscape of this historic part of town. It will be good news for the area if this scheme is agreed the local Councillor Stuart Sampson has been advocating this for a good while.
Spending this £254,000 will mean that another 10 schemes for localised reconstruction work will proceed during the rest of this year. However, even this sum represents a severe cut on previous years work. We are having to prioritise those areas which must be done so that surface dressing contracts can proceed during next summer."
