16/09/03 - Public participation works in Allerdale Local Committee

On Wednesday 17th September at The Oval Centre in Salterbeck at 1pm, Cumbria County Council's Local Committee for Allerdale will hear about three significant issues from local community members under the Local Committee's public participation session.

The following issues will be raised

  • A question about improving road safety in High Harrington will be put from a local resident following the tragic fatal accident at the Metal Bridge on the A597.
  • Another local resident will speak of the need for better pedestrian crossing facilities near to the Tesco supermarket, in Workington.
  • Maryport area neighbourhood forum, meeting last week in Dearham referred the matter of school children's difficulty in getting home from school following the change in bus service contract arrangements.

The Chairman of the local Parish Council is also expected to present a petition under the public participation scheme.

County Councillor Barbara Cannon, Chair of Allerdale Local Committee says,

"It is really important that we hear from members of the public about these local issues that they believe need looking at. Members of the Allerdale Local Committee are always keen to find space for local communities views to be heard. These are all matters that relate to the central budgets and decisions of the County Council. Allerdale Local Committee will work hard to ensure that politicians and officers up in Carlisle take notice of the concerns of local residents in Allerdale, about the services they should receive."
