At 10.00 on Tuesday 30 September Cumbria County Council’s Cabinet will discuss a number of reports all relating to performance improvement. The reports all aim to ensure that social care service developments lead to better services for the people of Cumbria. County Councillor John Mallinson, Cabinet spokesman for Care and Social Services explains the importance of the reports. He says,
“There are four reports on social services performance to be considered by Cabinet. These are the Children’s Services Performance Plan, Social Services Performance Review Report, information on the progress on the implementation of the Climbie self audit action plan and the development of continuing care eligibility criteria with health partners.
The Children’s Services Performance Improvement plan has been updated following a review of the service and identifies a number of key areas for development. These revolve around a central theme of prevention; early support for families decreasing the likelihood of crisis. The Social Services Performance Review report summarises the Social Services Inspectorate performance review for 2003. It identifies improvements made during the year and areas for further development. Cabinet will receive a progress report on the implementation of the Climbie self audit action plan. Cabinet will be asked to consider a detailed report in October relating to the Government’s Green Paper `Every Child Matters’ and its implications for the Council. The Continuing Care funding criteria refers to work with health partners to develop eligibility criteria for people needing continuing health care. All of these reports are linked by performance and are important in ensuring that services to support vulnerable people continue to improve.”
