  • Good placement choice and stability for children looked after by the Council
  • Progress for young people leaving care in further education, employment and training
  • Successful reduction of delayed transfers of care for older adults in hospital
  • Good progress in Learning Disability work and positive inspection of Mental Health Services

Further need for improvement was identified in the following areas,

  • Prevention strategy development and data monitoring
  • Improvements in care management processes for adults
  • Delays in the delivery of small items of equipment promoting independent living at home
  • IT infrastructure and data management

County Councillor John Mallinson, Cabinet spokesman for Care and Social Services says,

“The Social Services Inspectorate (SSI) annual review has highlighted a number of significant strengths and I am pleased at the progress made on performance improvement this year.  However, we are never complacent and want to build on good practice to continually improve services for vulnerable people".

The report forms part of the SSI’s performance record for Cumbria County Council and will be published on the Department of Health’s website in November.  The report will be considered by SSI as part of the overall assessment of performance leading to the publication of the Council’s Performance (Star rating) in November.
