5/4/2004 - Over £4,000 given to community groups in Eden

Today, Cumbria County Council’s Eden Local Committee ratified over £4,000 for community groups in Eden, including a grant of £300 to Crosby Ravensworth Brownies for a trip to `World Thinking Day’ in London.  The community grants, given by Neighbourhood Forums across Eden, are to support local community activities and projects.  County Councillor Mary Warburton, Chair of Eden Local Committee, says,

 

“The County Council is committed to supporting the economic, environmental and social well being of the people of Eden.  Community grants are a primary source of social support and help to ensure social inclusion and community participation.  I am pleased to support and ratify the grants given by Neighbourhood Forums to help fund projects involving children and young people and community communication projects like website development and newsletters.  The Brownie’s trip to London looks especially interesting and I look forward to hearing from them on their return”

 

Anne Longbone, Assistant Guider with the 1stCrosby Ravensworth Brownies Leader,

 

“I am delighted to receive this funding from Cumbria County Council’s Eden Local Committee.  World Thinking Day  is a celebration of the birth date of the founders of the Girl Guide movement.  The Day focuses young people’s minds on the global family and other world issues.  It centres around a service at Westminster Abbey.  Many of our Brownies  haven’t been to London and the whole event is a valuable experience.  It is something that would have been difficult to fund without support.” 

 

The other Neighbourhood Forum grants ratified by Eden Local Committee today are,

 

Eden Fells Forum area

  •       £500 to `The Children’s Gate’ for start up costs
  •       £100 to the Upper Eden Childminding Group to buy musical instruments
  •       £500 to Shap Parish Council to develop a community website
  •       £400 to Shap Playgroup to buy new equipment 

Upper Eden Forum area

  • £350 to Twinkles, Tebay under 5’s towards rent and insurance costs 
  • £500 to Brough Community funds to create a new play area in Brough
  • £419 to Kirkby Stephen Community and Council centre to develop a community website
  • £150 to Brough with Stainmore Hidden Britain Centre to fund a news letter set up costs
  • £400 to South Stainmore Institute to produce five community news letters
  • £450 to the Upper Eden Childminding Group to buy musical instruments
