Cheques totalling £23,000 are being presented by Cumbria County Council on Tuesday, April 20, to representatives of six "green" projects in the county. The grants are from the county council's Local Agenda 21 fund, which is aimed at schemes that improve or sustain the environment.
The presentations are being made at two locations, the County Offices at Kendal at 10.15am and at Cockermouth School at 1pm. They will be handed over by County Councillor Lawson Short, Cabinet member with responsibility for environmental issues.
Councillor Short said:
"One of the county council's major priorities is to protect the local environment and help in sustaining local communities. All these projects fulfil those aims in a variety of ways.
"The grants have in some cases enabled yet more funding to be drawn down to help Cumbria's environment, providing a further investment in the county's future.
"Those who have put in so much effort and are continuing to work hard to bring these projects to fruition deserve recognition and our thanks."

Cumbria County Council's Cabinet made £60,000 available in the financial year 2003-04 to fund Local Agenda 21 projects across the county and £58,400 has been allocated to 15 projects.
The projects make a positive contribution to the development of sustainable communities. They all involve local people and further the council's policy of protecting and sustaining the environment, as well as demonstrating the effect on the planet of human actions and thinking of the impact for future generations.
Groups wishing to apply for grants in the current financial year, 2004-05, will find the criteria and information about now to apply, including an application form, on the Cumbria County Council Sustainability website.
