26/04/04 - County Council welcome progress on Talkin Tarn transfer

The County Council has welcomed news that Carlisle City Council will continue to work in partnership towards the eventual transfer of ownership of Talkin Tarn from the County to the City. County Councillor, Tim Heslop, Cabinet spokesman on property says:

“Today’s decision signals a positive way forward and one that meets the concerns of local people. The future of the ownership and long-term management of the Tarn has been under debate for some time. The Tarn will remain in public ownership and public access will be guaranteed. Officers from both Councils will now work on the detail of the transfer before any final decision is taken. We will also keep local user groups up to date with progress, and seek their views before the Councils finally agree to the transfer.”

Councillor Heslop will update the County Council’s Cabinet when it meets tomorrow at 10.00am at The Courts, Carlisle.
