Pupils across Cumbria have today received congratulations from the county council following publication of GCSE results. Pupils in the county have done well again this year building on the improvements of previous years. A detailed analysis of the results is still to be completed but results in Cumbria look to be up by around three percentage points.
Victoria Ashfield, the county council's Corporate director of education says:
"We are thrilled with the results that our GCSE students have achieved this year. There are improvements across the board and the overall improvement of around 3% is extremely encouraging. Results this year build on previous improvements over the last 5 years.
I am delighted that the picture we are getting is of a good performance keeping pace with national comparisons.
Today we are celebrating the success of individual pupils and the support given by parents. Teachers across the county also deserve congratulations as they have worked very hard to raise the standards throughout our schools. The results indicate a great achievement by the children of the county and schools."
