Eight Cumbria county councillors will next week celebrate over twenty years service. They will be the first recipients of an award from Cumbria county council to mark their achievement and contribution to public life. Framed prints of the Cumbria coat of arms will be presented to them at a ceremony held in The Old Courtroom, The Courts, Carlisle on Tuesday 31 August at 12.15pm.
The eight county councillors are:
Ralph Aldersey, Carlisle.
Ronnie Calvin, Whitehaven.
Bill Cameron, Maryport.
Anne Glendinning, Carlisle.
Joe Nicholson, Sedbergh.
Bill Smith, Barrow.
Reg Watson, Carlisle.
Peter Phizacklea, Dalton-in-Furness.
Chairman of Cumbria county council Jim Webster says:
"It was decided to hold an event to recognise over 20 years service in public life by councillors earlier this year. In particular the award marks the significant contribution these councillors have made to their local communities and the county council. I'm very proud to be the first person to present these awards on behalf of the people of this county who we all represent."
Unfortunately Councillor Phizacklea cannot attend Tuesday's ceremony so separate arrangements are being made to present him with the award.
