Carlisle Library will see the start of its new Sunday opening arrangements this Sunday, 12 December.
The extra weekend opening hours between midday and 4pm will make family visits easier and will feature special activities such as performances and taster sessions on the library’s computers coming up in the New Year.
Carlisle is the one of Cumbria County Council Library Service's six main libraries set to open their doors on Sundays.
Sunday opening also startsin Barrow, Kendal and Whitehaven will follow suit in the coming weeks.
Roger Bingham, county council cabinet member for culture, said: "The county council's library service got a "good" rating from the Government inspectors this year. Sunday opening is another good example of just how well Cumbria's libraries are serving their communities and trying to reach more people."
Library services manager Alan Welton said: "We had a good public response to a pilot scheme of Sunday opening and we hope to see more people visiting our main libraries on Sundays in the future."
