11/02/04 - Get Art-e!

Get Arty with the new Artefacts website, delivering the county’s arts and culture straight to you wherever you are.

Launched in style by Cumbria County Council vice-chairman, Councillor Jim Webster, the distinctive Artefacts website is a global showcase for the county’s cultural industries, promoting the Cumbrian arts scene to a local, national and international audience.

Artefacts also greets the start of the Spring, at a time when potential visitors are hunting for places to visit and things to do. Artefacts brings tourists closer to the treasures of the county by showing a glimpse inside many museums and galleries, tempting visitors to discover art and sculptures in towns and countryside alike, and even inviting them to festival or two.

Commenting on the site’s image and offerings, Councillor Webster says:

" This site looks at everything from the evident talents and creativity of individual artists to partnership projects in public art. Covering art and culture from the Eden Valley to the West Coast, this bright and vibrant new site is a window for the outside world to view what Cumbria has to offer."

Embracing a bright, vibrant and sophisticated image, Artefacts offers a taste of:

  • the visual arts, highlighting the work of artists and craftspeople within the county
  • public art projects around Cumbria, including Sheepfolds, Maryport Harbour Lights, West Cumbria’s Personal Baggage project and Eden Benchmarks
  • the variety of museums and galleries around the county using interactive maps
  • major cultural events and festivals in the region
  • information about arts development organisations.
