17/02/04 - County Council Raises Awareness of Vulnerable Adult Abuse

On Wednesday 18 February 2004 at the Oval Centre, Salterbeck, Workington, the Individual Support Consultative Forum meets to discuss the issue of vulnerable adults at risk of abuse.  County Councillor Sue Brown, Chair of the Individual Support Consultative Forum explains why the meeting is taking place and what will happen on the day.  She says,

“Abuse of adults was not even recognised fifteen to twenty years ago and it still has not received the same high profile as child abuse.  It is important that this serious issue is highlighted to raise awareness and to ensure the development of adult protection systems.  The aim of the Forum is to involve service users, carers, voluntary and statutory organisations in raising the profile of the issue and discussing action to address them.

The Forum will receive a presentation from Irene Cooper, Project Officer, Social Services and will then split into groups to discuss what we need to do to further raise the profile of issues relating the protection of vulnerable adults from abuse in Cumbria and how we can involve service users and carers in the work of the Cumbria Adult Protection Committee.”
