Today, Cumbria County Council’s Eden Local Committee agreed a two-hour disc-parking zone for Tynefield Drive in Penrith exemption for residents and disabled badge holders.
County Councillor Mary Warburton, Chair of Eden Local Committee, says,
“I am pleased to support the disc-parking zone in Tynefield Drive in accordance with the wishes of local residents. The road gives access to a health centre, the hospital, ambulance and fire stations, mountain rescue base, a care home and the Alzheimer’s Association as well as a number of houses. There have been a number of complaints over the years over inconsiderate parking from people working locally and visiting the various establishments accessed via Tynefield Drive. Residents suggested a `residents parking only’ scheme but when we studied the problems it became clear that parking was mainly an issue during the working day. The Police suggested a disc-zone parking scheme instead and after consultation last autumn, it became clear that this was a popular option. Draft proposals were advertised in November last year and closed without any objectives being received.
The disc zone scheme will be implemented before 31 March and will be complemented by a `no waiting at any time’ area opposite houses where the road narrows to ensure clear passage for emergency vehicles.”
