06/07/04 - Enhanced teenage pregnancy support service launched

The multi agency Cumbria Teenage Pregnancy Strategy (CTPS) Board recently launched an enhanced support service for young people in the county considering pregnancy termination. Fran Frankland, Cumbria teenage Pregnancy Strategy coordinator says,   

"Making a decision to terminate a pregnancy is a very difficult one. It is important that young women considering abortion have access to specialist information and support about their choices. The specialist service is part of our wider strategy ensuring that young people have an opportunity to talk confidentially about sex, relationships and contraception. Over the last 6 months, local coordinators have been involved in specialist training to better meet the needs of young people in this area of support. The TPS Board is working in partnership with the YWCA England & Wales, who will be providing pre and post termination counselling as part of the service. Counselling will be available to young women 18 and under, who refer themselves for the service or are referred by a partner agency."
