30/7/2004 - Roadshow promises fun for kids and information for parents

A county-wide roadshow for children and parents is going out in August. The roadshow is organised by Cumbria Sure Start, the Children’s Information Service and the county’s library service. 

The library service’s mobile bus will be used to transport the fun around Cumbria. For the youngsters there will be toys, games, competitions and craft activities for all to join in. For parents there will be information and advice from the Cumbria Sure Start and Children’s Information Service staff on childcare, early education and family support matters. Staff from the library service will also be on hand for parents and children who want to join the library, and they wil be able to borrow books available at the roadshow straight away.

Jacqui Sullivan, children’s information service manager, says:

"We are working together to get out to the local communities in Cumbria and show them the support now available to families. We have loads of things lined up for the children to ensure they have fun, whilst parents can find out more and discuss issues around childcare, early education and family suppport. With the library service we are are also aiming to encourage parents and children to use the library ."

The August Roadshow will visit the following locations:

Whitehaven - The Hub Area on Thursday, 19 August, 10am-3pm

Abbeytown - Village Hall, on Friday, 20 August, 10am-12 noon

Caldbeck -Village Hall on Friday, 20 August, 1-3pm 

Hawkshead - main car park on Thursday, 26 August, 10am-12noon

Broughton in Furness - Main Square, on Thursday, 26 August, 2-4pm

Barrow- Town Hall on Friday, 27 August, 10am-3pm

Alston - Town centre on Tuesday, 31 August, 10am-12noon

Appleby - Broughgate (Moot Hall) on Tuesday, 31 August 

Brampton - Main Street, Wednesday, 1 September, 10am-12noon

Dalston - Main Square, Wednesday, 1 September, 2-4pm
