Cumbria County Council’s Trading Standards Department today welcomed the sentence imposed on Wigton farmer Robert Marcus Wilson, aged 49, by Carlisle Magistrates. Robert Marcus Wilson pleaded guilty to charges of failing to dispose of 6 dead calves and one of intentionally obstructing an officer of the Trading Standards Department. He was sentenced to 3 months imprisonment.
Councillor Jack Richardson, Cumbria County Council’s Community Safety Spokesman says:
"Clearly the magistrates have taken a serious view of Wilson’s behaviour. It is important that public officials can carry out their business without being obstructed or fearful for their own safety. I welcome the sentence and hope that it acts as a deterrent to others".
Wilson also pleaded guilty to harassing a planning officer from Carlisle City Council (4 months imprisonment), assaulting 2 police officers (3 months imprisonment for each), criminal damage (1 month imprisonment) and racially aggravated assault (I month imprisonment). All sentences are to run concurrently.
