18/06/04 - 2005 for pedestrian priority completion

Today, Cumbria County Council outlines the timetable for the delivery of pedestrian priority on Stricklandgate and the additional traffic management measures needed to reduce the town's long standing traffic congestion problems. The timetable was announced at today's meeting of South Lakeland local committee. County Councillor Oliver Pearson, Committee chair says,   

"The pedestrianisation of Kendal town centre has been a long project requiring a huge amount of community consultation and hard decision making. The timetable gives us a clear picture of the likely completion of the scheme. This will ensure that the quality of life for pedestrians in Kendal is much improved and will do as much as is possible to reduce traffic congestion."   

The committee also agreed that feasibility studies be carried out to investigate further developments to the scheme including a possible Longpool gyratory system
