Today, Cumbria County Council's South Lakeland local committee agreed to support projects put forward by Ulverston & Low Furness and Lakes Market Town's Initiatives and an Arnside parish Council community project. The project approval sees communities reaping rewards from money set aside by the committee for economic initiatives.
£2000 is allocated to Arnside Parish Council for a scheme to convert the Cemetery Chapel for community use. County Councillor Oliver Pearson, Chair of South Lakeland local committee says,
"The whole purpose of the local committee is to work to improve the economic, social and environmental well being of South Lakeland. I am very pleased to support these economic initiatives improving life for local communities."
The committee also agreed,
£7,500 to go to the Development trust to employ a part-time worker to develop their website portal project. This involves the development of a central portal site and the building of sites for individual businesses, encouraging e-commerce.
£7,500 to Ulverston Market Towns Initiative for leaflets to promote the area, a `Business of the Year' competition, website development and corporate print support for a festivals programme.
