21/06/04 - Find out more about childcare through your local library

Cumbria County Council's Library Service & Cumbria Sure Start are joining forces to celebrate National Sure Start Month. Staff from Cumbria Sure Start will be at Penrith Library & Carlisle Library on 24th & 30th June respectively. They will be giving free advice and information to parents on childcare and early education in Cumbria. Information packs will be available for parents and carers about childcare provision and other facilities in health and family support available to children in the area.

National Sure Start Month is sponsored by Sure Start, the Government programme dedicated to delivering the best start in life for every child. The theme for this year is ‘Starting Early’ to show the benefits of early education in a child’s long-term development. Cumbria Sure Start is responsible for delivering the Sure Start agenda in the county.

County Councillor Joan Stocker, Cabinet Spokesperson for Education says

"National Sure Start Month goes from strength to strength each year. It highlights the wide range of services and support already available for children, families and communities, to make sure as many people as possible know what is available to them. Sure Start aims to improve the health and well being of families and children before and from birth, so children are ready to flourish when they go to school. I am sure that this year will be just as successful and I hope that people take the opportunity to attend the many events that have been organised across the County."

Paul Bunyan of Cumbria Sure Start’s Carlisle and Eden Area Teams says,

"We are looking forward to meeting with parents and children to show them what’s on offer for families in the area, in terms of childcare, family support, early education and health services. We would welcome enquiries and suggestions from parents on how we can improve the services currently offered. We are always developing new services and new ideas and feedback from parents is most welcome. "
