25/06/04 - Childcare providers receive extra funding for new schemes

Today, Cumbria County Council’s Local Committee for Copeland agreed to award over £9k to 2 childcare providers in the area.

The 2 childcare providers benefiting from this money are:

  • Open Gates Family Centre - £2800 for the first year of their lease agreement and to purchase new equipment.
  • Frizington Out of School Club - £7000 to provide after school and holiday childcare for disadvantaged children.

These schemes have the additional benefit of improving parenting skills and children's learning of acceptable behaviour. This enables full integration of all children into mainstream activities.

Councillor Ronnie Calvin, Chairman of the Local Committee, says

"Children benefit from these type of schemes and parents can go to or look for work, knowing that their children are being cared for in a stimulating environment by qualified staff. Both these groups provide essential childcare services, which are affordable and meet the needs of the families. They work extremely hard and I am delighted that the Local Committee has been able to continue to support them in this way."
