25/06/04 - Local Committee continues to support children with special educational needs and disabilities

Today, Cumbria County Council's Local Committee for Copeland agreed to award a further £12,000 to continue their support to children with special educational needs and disabilities. The money will enable childcare provides increase their staffing to give extra support to these children while still involving them with the other children in the group.

Councillor Ronnie Calvin, Chair of the Local Committee says

"Last year this Local Committee granted £5,000 towards additional support to 47 children throughout Copeland. We want this support to continue as well as giving other children the support they need. It is essential that these children have the same opportunities as other children their age. These childcare providers provide valuable childcare facilities so parents can go to or look for work, knowing that their children are being cared for in a stimulating environment by qualified staff."

Applications for additional support are made to Cumbria Sure Start. Funding covers 3 terms, a year of holiday provision or until the child leaves the group.
