29/06/04 - New Easy Access buses for Carlisle

Catching the bus into Carlisle is now a lot easier for the elderly, people with mobility problems and parents with young children thanks to the introduction of new low floor vehicles.

Two new easy access buses have been introduced onto the 62/62A and 62B routes from Kingmoor Park into the city centre.

The initiative has been funded by the Government's Urban Bus Challenge and is a partnership between Cumbria County Council, Stagecoach North West and Kingmoor Park Properties.

The service operates on a half hourly frequency between Carlisle, The Courts and Kingmoor Park, along Scotland Road, Kingstown Road, Kingmoor Park North, Kingmoor Park Central, Asda, and then returning back to the city centre along the reverse route.

Both buses are in full Stagecoach livery and show frequency of service and destinations served. The low floor vehicles provide easy access for wheelchair users and mobility impaired passengers, as well as those travelling with prams and buggies.

The service runs Monday to Friday with the first bus departing Carlisle, The Courts at 0635, and the last bus leaving Kingmoor Park North at 1810. An average of 8,500 people use the service each month.
