29/06/04 - Storysacks are bags of fun

Children in two Cumbrian towns now have access to bags of informative fun at their local library.

Keswick and Wigton libraries are the latest in the County to take posession of Storysacks - brightly coloured cloth bags that contains a picture book, an information book and a variety of soft toys and games associated with the story.

Storysack loans began in libraries in Allerdale three years ago and there has been a rolling programme to make them available in all libraries as stock grew.

There are three storysack Project Officers in the Allerdale area and they have worked to introduce and encourage the use of storysacks by parents and children and gradually extend the range and number in libraries.

Local nursery children, together with their parents and carers, will be at Wigton Library on Tuesday July 6 at 11am and at Keswick Library on Wednesday July 7 at 11am, to witness the launch of storysacks in their area and to enjoy the story and the fun of playing with the toys and games they contain.

The launches mean that every library in Allerdale now has storysacks in stock. Whilst in any one library there is only a limited range of storysacks, parents can request sacks from other libraries.

As members of the library the whole range of library facilities will be on offer to them, from a full range of picture and information books through storytimes and summer activities to homework help and internet access.
