On Tuesday 9thMarch at 1pm at St Michaels Church in Workington, Cumbria County Council’s Local Committee for Allerdale will be considering the last round of youth grant recommendations, in its current 3-year programme.
Since 2001, Allerdale Local Committee will have agreed over 200 grants to local groups, totalling over £0.3m. In this final round Members will be asked to approve general youth grants and holiday activity scheme grants totalling over £30,000.
County Councillor Barbara Cannon, Chair of Allerdale Local Committee says
“We are proud of our three year Services to Young Peoples programme. It has delivered strong support for the variety of local groups who give of their own time and effort to put on activities and events for youngsters around the towns and villages of the Allerdale area. Sports, leisure, outdoor pursuits, evening youth clubs, ‘have your say’ activities are all examples of things we have provided finance to support.
The County Council is embarking on a new Youth Strategy and this Local Committee is very concerned about the future of our grants schemes. It is not yet clear whether the County Council is going to allow local committees to decided locally on our priorities, and we may not be able in future to have a grants scheme that is as flexible as this successful scheme has been over the last three years.”
