10/03/04 - Friday Market to continue on Senhouse Street

This week, Cumbria County Council’s Local Committee for Allerdale made further decisions for the proposed Permanent Traffic Regulation Order for Maryport, after the Local Committee decided to revoke the Pedestrianisation Order that applied to Senhouse St. between Curzon St. and Crosby St., including reaffirming their commitment to the proposed Fridays Market at the Curzon St end of Senhouse St.

The New Permanent Traffic Regulation Order will include proposals for:

  •       Senhouse Street (section between Curzon St & Furnace Lane) closure to traffic between 7am and 7pm on Fridays
  •       The existing Friday Market day TRO on Lower Church Street be permanently revoked
  •       No waiting and loading restrictions to apply to all of Senhouse Street except for defined areas.
  •       A 20 mph speed limit apply for Senhouse Street between Curzon St and Crosby St
  •       Changes to parking in Crosby St., Senhouse St (Curzon St to High St) and Wood St (between Curzon St & Lower Church St) essentially that a time limit of 30 minutes, no return within one hour applies Monday to Saturdays 8:30 to 6pm, with minor changes to layout.
  •       The designated loading areas in Senhouse St to be available for loading and disabled badge bearing vehicles only Monday to Saturday 8:30am to 6pm
  •       Bus clearways be provided on the south side of Senhouse Street, immediately west of the Curzon Street and Crosby Street junctions; on the west side of High Street opposite the John Street junction from 0830 – 1800 Monday – Saturday and on the west side of Curzon Street, north of Senhouse Street junction from 0830 – 1800 on Friday
  •       A disabled bay provided outside 107/109 Senhouse Street

It is likely to be about three months before the Permanent Order is made, until that time the sections of the Experimental Traffic Regulation Order that the Committee made on 1stJuly 2003 will apply where the mandatory signs and road markings are in place.

County Councillor Barbara Cannon, Chair of the Local Committee says

“The decisions taken today will now be taken forwards and be fully advertised and consulted upon prior to the Local Committee making the Permanent Traffic Regulation Order for Maryport.  The statutory consultation includes corporate bodies such as the Town Council, Constabulary, Fire Service etc: frontage properties directly affected by changes to restrictions and once the Statutory Notices are published in the Press any individual is able to make representation. All representations will be considered by the Local Committee prior to it making final decisions on the Permanent Traffic Regulation Order and I would urge people to ensure they make their views known.”
