17/03/04 - Ace Dance Festival 2004

From 7.30pm on Friday 19thMarch at the Sands Centre in Carlisle, Cumbria Sport will team up again with Cumbria Dance for this year’s ACE Dance Festival.  Children from 17 schools across Allerdale, Carlisle and Eden will take part in the Festival which aims to give children to experience working with a dance specialist in their own school environment to produce a piece for performance and watch others perform.  Teachers also benefit by developing their own skills and expertise through working with the dance specialist.

The festival, funded by the Cumberland Building Society, will include dance themes from Romeo & Juliet, Mission Impossible, Star Wars and many more.

County Councillor Joan Stocker, Cabinet Spokesperson for Education says

“This is entirely consistent with the Council’s commitment to encourage and increase the amount of sport and other activities available in schools whilst continuing to work to raise educational standards for all of the children in this County.  The schools taking part in the Dance Festival have spent one term on a curriculum piece with the support from a dance worker for 4 lessons.  It is a wonderful opportunity for these children to gain experience in dance as well as having a lot of fun at the same time.  This will be the third year that the festival has been held and I am sure it will be as successful as before and I hope there will be many more for us to enjoy.”
