“It is a great pleasure that as Chair of the Council in it’s 30thyear I have been asked to launch the new County Guide. Cumbria is a great place and has a lot to offer businesses that are looking to relocate. The county is one of the most satisfying and exciting places in which to live and work, and is also one of the loveliest parts of Britain. This guide gives a taste of what it is like to live and work here.

The publication of the Guide is just the start of the celebrations and we want the people of Cumbria to be involved.  Cumbria County Council is looking for local people born in the first week of April 1974 to share in our celebrations.”

1974 was not only the year that Cumbria County Council was created.  Bagpuss was born, Abba won the Eurovision song contest with  Waterlooand Ceefaxwas transmitted for the first time on BBC1.  Anyone born in the first week of April who wants to be involved in Cumbria County Council’s 30thbirthday celebrations can contact Moyra Fisher on 01228 606336 or via email.
