Today, Cumbria County Council’s South Lakeland Local Committee approved £10,000 funding to address parking and road safety issues arising from the Ulverston parking review.
County Councillor Oliver Pearson, Vice-Chair of South Lakes Local Committee says,
“The Committee’s Transport and Highways working group reported that excessive on-street parking was becoming a problem in Ulverston. The problem is a result of drivers who are choosing to park inappropriately on the streets rather than pay for parking in a safe, designated car park. This has led to safety issues around Hartley Street and child safety issues around Argyll Street where road markings are worn and new signage is needed. I am pleased that the Committee has agreed to fund £10,000 of signage and road marking improvement to ease these problems.”
This scheme is an excellent example of the problems road markings and signage can help to overcome. This scheme is funded from the £150,000 `Signs and Lines’ budget and is an example of Cumbria County Council’s commitment to improve the safety of people’s lives in South Lakeland.
