This week, Cumbria County Council’s Local Committee for Copeland received a presentation from Alayne Cowling, Area Library Manager at Whitehaven Library. Alayne informed Members of the Committee of what improvements and recent developments have been made within the Library Service and what services they currently offer.
Libraries nowadays can offer a great deal more than before. They all have computer access and some provide Internet taster sessions. Many have been refurbished providing comfortable seating and display areas. One of the Library Service’s main priorities is to work with other organisations to tackle social exclusion. A housebound service and other services are now provided to make sure that everyone has access to what’s on offer.
County Councillor Simon Leyton, Vice Chair of the Local Committee says
“I am delighted the Area Library Manager accepted our invitation to come to today’s Committee meeting. The Library Service provides a valuable service to everyone, young and old, throughout Copeland. Their partnership working has been exemplary; working with many organisations to make sure there is a wide range of quality services available to the people in the area. This Local Committee has always supported projects through the Library Service such as Story Sacks. It was good to hear where some of this money has been spent and that it has been put to good use.”
