Cumbria County Council Chairman, Joe Nicholson today congratulated Trinity School’s Under 18’s football team for winning the National Schools Trophy at Brunton Park yesterday. Trinity beat Neale-Wade Community College, from March in Cambridgeshire, in front of 2500 supporters with a golden goal in extra time. The nail biting match finished 1-0.
Over 1000 teams competed in the tournament. After getting through all 7 rounds, Trinity went on to beat St John Fisher School, Harrogate in the quarter-final then St Bede’s College, Manchester in the semi-final. The Team will now be guests of honour at Villa Park, home of Aston Villa FC, for the Parade of Champions before the Under 18 Invitation International Match – England v Rest of the World XI on Saturday 8thMay. This is to celebrate the English Schools’ Football Association Centenary.
Cllr Nicholson says
“This is a fantastic achievement for these young players. From all accounts it was an unbelievable match which kept the supporters on the edge of their seats. I would like to congratulate everyone involved and would like to take this opportunity to thank Carlisle United for hosting the event free of charge.”
On Monday 10thMay at 10.30am the Chairman will visit the school, and meet the team personally. He will then present the Captain of the team Stuart Hill with the Cumbria County Council’s coat of arms.
