17/05/04 - LA21 grant will help fund energy saving measures in south Cumbria

Householders in South Cumbria are being given the chance to slash their fuel bills and make their homes more eco-friendly thanks to a grant from Cumbria County Council.

The Authority has given £5,000 to the Baywind Energy Conservation Trust through its Local Agenda 21 fund.

The money will be used to carry out energy saving initiatives at homes in the Swarthmoor and Pennington areas of Ulverston. These include loft insulation, hot water cylinder jackets, low energy bulbs, solar thermal panels and cavity wall insulation. Grants will be issued on a first come first served basis.

Councillor Lawson Short, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Environmental issues, said:

“Householders will not only save money through reductions in bills, they will also be helping the environment by being more energy efficient and reducing CO2 emissions. This is exactly the sort of project the LA21 fund is keen to support and I urge householders to take advantage of this scheme.”

Baywind Energy Conservation Trust is administered by Baywind Energy Co-operative Ltd who operate the wind turbines at Harlock Hill. The trust was established as planning gain for the local community to receive an annual royalty from the turnover of the farm.

Anyone wanting to apply for a grant should contact the Trust on 01229 821028.
