At 1.30pm on Saturday 29 May at Langwathby Village Hall, a new £60,000 bus will be launched to supplement the Fellrunner community bus service. Cumbria County Council's Eden Local Committee gave £10,000 towards the purchase of the bus.
The rest of the money came from the Fellrunner volunteers themselves, Help the Aged and the parishes of Ainstable, Culgaith, Ousby and Lazonby through the Countryside Agency's Parish Transport Grant. County Councillor Mary Warburton, Chair of Eden Local Committee says,
"For many people in Eden villages, this is the only bus they will see. It provides an important link for the people in the area. I am pleased that Eden Local Committee was able to provide £10,000 of funding to help buy this very welcome addition to the community bus service."
County Councillor Mike Ash, Deputy Leader of the Council will be attending the launch as Cabinet member with responsibility for links with communities. He says,
"Cumbria County Council is committed to community transport and social inclusion for rural communities. This is a great opportunity to celebrate what volunteers can achieve with the help and support of local councils, other voluntary organisations and the community they serve."
