County Councillor Gary Strong was yesterday elected Chairman of Cumbria County Council's Eden local committee. County Councillor Roger Bird was elected as Vice-Chair.
Gary 38, is married to Karen and is a Great Strickland farmer. He was elected to the Council in 2001. He is a member of Overview and Scrutiny Committee, a trustee of the Carlisle Settle Railway Trust, a member of the County Council's Rural Issues task group and a school governor at Ullswater Community College. Councillor Strong says,
"It is an honour to be Chairman of Eden local committee. I am looking forward to working with my council colleagues and other organisations to promote the economic, social and environmental well being of the people of Eden."
County Councillor Roger Bird was also elected to the Council in 2001. He is a member of Development, Control and Regulation Committee and represents the Council on a number of bodies including Cumbria Tourist Board General Council and the Penrith Partnership. He chaired the Ullswater Area Action Plan working group. Commenting on his appointment Roger says,
"Like Gary, I am one of the youngest members of Cumbria County Council. My division is Eden Lakes which is a large area stretching from Asby at one end to Kirkstone and Penruddock at the other. I am a Rural Practice Chartered Surveyor and have an agricultural background. I am delighted to be the new Vice-Chairman and look forward to the coming year."
