18/10/2004 - Over £3k for early years providers in and around Carlisle

Today, Cumbria County Council's local committee for Carlisle agreed to grant £3,699 to four early years providers across the area.

The early years groups benefiting from this money are:

  • Lanercost after school club - £479 to purchase a mobile phone for emergency use, to carry out CRB checks on new staff and a small storage shed
  • Kinder Park Nursery - £2,000 to extend its provision to care for children aged 6 months and increase the number of places from 20 to 28.
  • Hallbankgate Playgroup - £400 for new toys and equipment to stock the village hall when play sessions are held there during the summer
  • St Aidan's Day Nursery - £820 to buy new outdoor play equipment for their park area

Chairman of the local committee, John Collier said:

"There is a growing demand for childcare, however the facilities provided must meet the needs of the parents as well as being affordable. The county council continues to support many of these groups so parents can go to work or take up training feeling confident that they are leaving their child in a safe and friendly environment."
