21/10/2004 - Penrith road improvements

Work to bring improvements to roads in Penrith will begin on Monday, 25 October.

Two projects will be carried out in the town in October and November.

Engineers working for Cumbria County Council are to resurface a section of Brunswick Road between Duke Street and the entrance to Bluebell Lane. Work will start on Monday, 25 October, and is expected to last seven days.

During the works Brunswick Road will be one-way only with traffic moving north east (downhill).

An alternative route along Middlegate and Castlegate will be provided for people travelling south west (uphill).

Arrangements will be made on Bluebell Lane to allow access to car parking, residential properties and businesses.

The work is taking place during half-term in an effort to minimise disruption.

On Monday, 1 November, work will begin to improve the surface on Market Square in Penrith town centre.

The work involves lifting and cleaning existing stones before relaying them on a new layer of mortar bedding.

Engineers will work seven-days-a-week to get the job finished as quickly as possible and the improvements should be finished by 19 November.

Cumbria County Council Engineers have assured the Penrith Chamber of Trade that the work will be completed before the its Magical Christmas in Penrith begins on 26 November.
