27/10/2004 - First renewal of vows ceremony in Carlisle

Cumbria County Council's Carlisle Register Office this week held its first renewal of vows ceremony for Lawrence and Jacqueline Ottway.

The Carlisle couple, known as Los and Jackie, have been married for 15-years and the ceremony was arranged by Jackie as a special wedding anniversary surprise for her husband.

He knew nothing about it until Saturday morning, 23 October, when the ceremony took place involving all four of the couple’s children. 

Renewal of vows and baby naming ceremonies have only been available at register offices since the Spring.

The ceremony was conducted by Superintendent Registrar Louise Jeffrey.

She said: "It was a fantastic, a real family occasion. It was the first we've held here in Carlisle, but we are getting quite a few inquiries and we hope it will be the first of many."
