19/4/2005 - Conference will give advice & training to childminders in Cumbria

On Saturday 23rd April at Newton Rigg Campus, Penrith, Cumbria Sure Start is hosting a conference for childminders in Cumbria. The conference will provide childminders with up to date training, via workshops, to assist them in their role as quality childcare providers.

The conference will give people the opportunity to meet other childminders, and meet the Cumbria Sure Start team. Workshops will provide advice and information on equal opportunities in childminding settings, running your own business, keeping yourself and your minded children safe and childminders and children's centres. Trade and information stands will also be set up giving information for all childminders.

Dareneth Cook, a development worker for Cumbria Sure Start said:

"This conference aims to support childminders across the County to improve their skills and up date their training. Childminders can often feel isolated and may leave the profession because of this. We need to ensure that we retain quality childminders to meet the needs of parents and children in Cumbria. The conference brings together childminders to share ideas and best practice to ensure that we can continue to offer quality childminding in Cumbria."

The conference starts at 9.45am until 4pm and there is a £10 cost to attend. Every delegate will receive a conference pack containing important information to enhance their business that they can take home. Buffet lunch and refreshments will be provided for delegates. Crèche facilities will be provided FREE of charge.
